Norman Thelwell was one of the most popular cartoonists in the UK; he capitalized on (and thoroughly enjoyed) Britain's love of hunting, steeplechase, and (in earlier generations) riding schools. His cartoons are full of personality, and his pen-and-ink illustrations are still instantly recognizable as "Thelwell ponies" in the UK.
